[rommel092079] how
to have unlimited tcp connections on windows server 2003?
[rommel092079] anybody guys?
[Kumorigoe] rommel092079, *unlimited*?
[Kumorigoe] For
what purpose?
[rommel092079] kumorigoe, i have this sql server
2005 on my windows server 2003. and i am having problem on hanging application.
[Kumorigoe] So old-ass shit, rommel092079?
[rommel092079] kumorigoe,
i dont know what you mean by old-ass shit but can you kindly help
[djc`] he means
you're running windows 2003 and sql server 2005
[djc`] aren't you
ashamed?
[Kumorigoe] SQL
server 2005 and Windows Server 2003.
[Kumorigoe] Isn't 2k3 EoL?
[djc`] april this
year i believe
[Dus10] I
think 2k3 R2 is EoL in april
[Dus10] and
that is extended support
[rommel092079] i
am aware of the EoL but I want to still with it for now. i just need to solve
this connection hang problem on the application.
[Kumorigoe] At any
rate, application hangs are unlikely to be caused by a lack of TCP connections.
[rommel092079] what
could be the cause of the application hang?
[Kumorigoe] What's your CPU/RAM usage at?
[rommel092079] coz
at the start of the day when only few users are using, there is no application
hang but only at the afternoon when the users are at peak
[Kumorigoe] How
many users?
[djc`] rommel092079,
have you looked in the event logs at all?
[rommel092079] around
50 users peak. cpu usage at 34% only and
memory usage at 1.54 of 2 gb.
[Kumorigoe] 2GB?
[rommel092079] yes 2 GB. actually this hardware server was the first
server it was installed. and it works fine.
but after i reformatted it for the latest windows server and sql server
where my db was incompatible that brings me back to server 2003 and sql 2005
where i have this hang problem now.
[djc`] rommel092079,
i asked you whether you've even lookd at the event logs
[djc`] yes or no
[rommel092079] no
[djc`] so you don't
think that would be a good place to start?
[djc`] if it's full
of errors it might lead you in the right direction
[Kumorigoe] ^
[rommel092079] ok.
where to look for it. i dont have idea. its my first to handle servers.
[Kumorigoe] Count
me unsurprised.
[Kumorigoe] Start -
Run - Eventvwr.msc
[djc`] you want to
focus on the system and application logs, typically speaking
[rommel092079] yes
i am in the applications and services logs and the number of events column
shows zero to all
[djc`] it should
have something
[djc`] do you have
a filter applied?
[rommel092079] none
[Kumorigoe] There's
no way that's right.
[rommel092079] now
I am looking at the Windows Logs - Application and I can see Warning Level for
sqlserveragent which states that it failed to invoke a job.
[Kumorigoe] Filter
by that. How many, and for how long?
[djc`] didn't you
say the logs were empty?
[rommel092079] all
of that warning log for sqlserveragent states only for failed to invoke a
job. and also there is for mssqlserver
only information level about the manual backup i made.
[djc`] nothing in system?
[rommel092079] djc:
yes at the Application and Services logs.
[djc`] rommel092079: there's a separate log, under
windows logs, called system
[rommel092079] on the Windows Logs - System, I can
see all Information Level that states that dns client service entered the
running state and stopped state.
[djc`] and there's no errors or warnings?
[rommel092079] no
errors nor warnings. all information
level only.

[Kumorigoe] What's
your storage?
[Kumorigoe] RAID? SCSI?
[rommel092079] RAID
[Kumorigoe] RAID
what?
[Kumorigoe] And
what kind of disks?
[rommel092079] I
forgot but i did not change the raid type since if was setup. I only did
reformat
[Kumorigoe] Do you even know how many disks are in the
RAID? What their health state is?
[Kumorigoe] How
old is the server itself?
[rommel092079] there
are three disks. with regards to the
health state by looking at the computer management storage disk management,
their status are healthy.
[rommel092079] the
server hardware is 6 years old
[Kumorigoe] And is
2GB the max RAM supported?
[rommel092079] 2gb
is not the max ram supported but when the server was purchased, they only
availed 2 GB.
[Kumorigoe] What's the make/model?
[Kumorigoe] Of the
server?
[rommel092079] ibm
x3400
[rommel092079] oh i forgot to mention, the raid
hard disk is only 1 and i added 2 sata disk where the database files are on the
sata. the sata runs 72000 rpm. would
that matter?
[Kumorigoe] So there was only 1 disk, and you added 2
more?
[rommel092079] yes
[rommel092079] because
the raid disk is only 80 GB
[Kumorigoe] A
single disk is not a RAID.
* ADAG10
scratches his head
[rommel092079] i did not changed that setup of
the original disk but only added 2 more sata
* rommel092079
has quit ()
